Ok, I think I just wet myself. I just finished watching a video taken by the folks over at Audioblog.fr that got me pretty excited. Ok now arguably this is just a prototype and the technology is probably a long way off for you and I, but it’s still pretty cool!
Basically what it consists of is a very cool lens that looks like an insect’s eye that provides multiple focal lengths throughout the photo. Then there is a software component that allows you to choose whatever focal point you want. But the real killer app is what Adobe’s vice president of interactive design, Dave Story describes as a “focus brush” in Photoshop! So basically you could simply brush in parts of the image that you’d like to have in focus. The video on Audioblog.fr also shows how you can move the photo in a 3D-like manner if you accidentally needed to be a little left, right, up or down to remove say an unwanted lamp post from someone’s head.
Gimmicky? Maybe, but very very cool!
