The hardest part about doing a blog post about artistic nudes, is figuring out which image I can use in the post without offending anyone who really doesn’t want to look at artistic nude photos.
I think this one is the most tame and hopefully doesn’t offend anyone. Unfortunately if you’re not a member of Flickr or Deviant Art and have safe search off, you probably would never see the images. So let’s get this out of the way first — if you’d like to see a couple of my most recent artistic nude sets, click on Emerald or Mandi to see a slideshow of their sets.
Emerald was shot in my house and she is a beautiful redhead that is not your typical 20-something model that I normally shoot with. She’s 34 and has a fantastic body for shooting bodyscape-like shots. I was extremely happy with the way the photos turned out.
Mandi is a 20 year old who found me through Kyrstie (a model I’ve shot with a few times now). She had never done any modeling before but really wanted to shoot some nudes. We shot some pretty creative ones, including on top of my kitchen table — complete with knife and fork! LOL …was fun to explain that one to the family. I’m so lucky my wife understands and fully supports this professional hobby of mine.
Finally, a couple of weeks ago I started posting these artistic nudes on Deviant Art and it’s amazing the attention these photos received. My overall number of pageviews tripled in just a couple of weeks, compared to a couple of years worth of pageviews previously! Many of the photos also received anywhere from 20-60 favourites and tons of comments. I was quite surprised and humbled. Either people really love the artistic quality of the images, or it just proves that men are mostly pigs (thanks to my sis for that comment).
It was really rewarding though to get positive comments from other artistic nude photographers and especially from women. Enjoy the photos and I welcome the feedback!

BTW the new studio is almost ready! We just finished painting and will probably finish the floors this weekend.

Heh..thanks Leon! Looking forward to seeing the studio next time I’m down in Seattle. I’m currently working on my own home/garage studio.

Cool! Are you buying lights? Or are you going to use SB800s?
Mar 20, 2008, 11:24 pmI was a complete speedlight guy until a friend of mine let me borrow her strobes with a huge softbox.
I just put in an order for some alienbees.

I’m either going with ABs or White Lightnings. Just debating on whether to spend the extra money for a bit better lights

I went Alien Bee 800s – the primary thing with white lightning seems to be heat dissipation and modeling light power. I guess if it’s a problem I can always upgrade at a later date – but I’m sure that I’ll be able to light 500 sq feet with the AB 800.
One of my studios mates has the same lights which takes us up to 4 strobes together.
