After a discussion with a good friend of mine, and model, CindyFay, we decided to do a theme based on the Brandon Lee movie, The Crow.

The movie begins with a story told by a young girl named Sarah about the legend of The Crow. The story states that when a person dies, their soul is carried to the afterlife by a crow; however, if that person’s soul is at unrest, the crow has the power to bring that person back to life so that they can right the wrongs that were done to them before they can find peace.

We shot in a cemetery in the afternoon, but with lighting and other post processing, it gives the appearance of night. I’ve also included select quotes from the movie that I felt was pertinent to the story-telling. Makeup was done by Pepa Chan and hair styling and assistance provided by Jeanine Chau.

You can see the whole series form start to finish on my flickr or Deviant Art sites.

I just read an article on the New York magazine’s online site that ranked the Pixar movies from top to bottom. I really couldn’t have disagreed with their rankings more though. Monsters Inc. as number one? No way!

I’m such a huge Pixar fanboy (I don’t hide that fact) and am going to see Wall-e today … at noon… for the first showing. I’m also not ashamed to say that I’m a Toy Story freak. Toy Story was the first movie my son ever watched with me on video, and Toy Story 2 was the first movie that my son ever watched in the movie theaters. So I’m a bit biased there (since I’ve seen Toy Story over 100 times – no lie), but to me those were just incredibly special movies. So what’s your ranking of the 8 Pixar movies before Wall-e? Mine would look something like this:

8. Cars
7. Nemo
6. Ratatouille
5. Monsters Inc.
4. A Bug’s Life
3. Incredibles
2. Toy Story 2
1. Toy Story

Right now I’m royally pissed off. After getting a ticket to the Transformers movie this afternoon, for the 8pm showing. Then showing up at 7pm just to get a seat, we were able to sit through just under an hour of one of the best movies of the summer, when something horrible happened.

About 55 minutes in, during a reel change the movie started going backwards and upside down! The audio was in reverse along with the movie, and it was starting about 20 minutes ahead of where we left off even! OMG, we were all gasping in horror. About 2 minutes later they finally shut it down and tell us that the reel is toast, and cannot be re-used! So what do they say they can do? They say that they are going to replace the reel with the NEXT reel and start the movie, having us lose 20 minutes of the movie in the process. Oh….and they’d throw in a free pass to come see the movie again.

I mean WTF? Why the hell would I want to watch the end missing 20 mins of the movie? I mean I could miss Optimus Prime coming down, or Megatron’s debut. Uhm, NO. I don’t THINK SO! So we hurried out of the theater and grabbed our pass and grumbled all the way home. It wouldn’t have been so bad if the damn movie was actually bad, but it was really really good! Grrrrr.

I still think the Decepticons hacked into the projection booth and took over the controls, all the while gleefully chuckling, “Silly humans!” to themselves.
